What does a job with The Corp pay?
All Corp Employees earn DC minimum wage ($8.25/hour).
How many hours a week will I work?
All Corp employees are required to work 3 shifts per week, which usually totals around 9 hours, at their home service. In addition, all employees are required to fulfill seasonal service and home service obligations that usually amount to about 8 additional hours over the course of the semester.
What if I want to work more hours in order to earn extra money?
Thanks to a fancy online Temp Schedule, you will always have the opportunity to pick up shifts that become available as other employees post shifts they can’t work. There are usually plenty of these shifts available, so don’t worry: there’s work if you want it.
I’m already pretty busy with class and extracurricular activities. How will the job fit into my schedule?
Employees work regular weekly shifts that are assigned at the beginning of each semester after all employees submit their availabilities to their service’s Director of Personnel. So if you have the time, we’ll find a time for you to work.
I’ve never drunk coffee in my life and I have no idea what’s in a “Cafe Mocha”. Can I still apply to work at one of the coffee shops?
Of course. Many of our coffee employees had little to no experience when they were hired. We have a rigorous training program that is meant to get new hires up to speed in no time at all. We select on the basis of passion and professionalism, not past experience, so don’t worry if you don’t know a latte from an iced tea. You’ll learn!
I have a Federal Work Study award, can I use it through The Corp?
Yes! The Corp is a proud member of the Federal Work Study program on campus and you can absolutely use your award through the Corp. We do ask that you refrain from mentioning your FWS award during the application process because we hold ourselves to a “work-study blind” standard during interviews.
Can I apply to several services at once?
Yes, and we encourage you to do so. Every semester, we typically have far more applicants than we can hire, so by applying to several services, you greatly increase your chances of getting an interview and a job. However, remember that interest in the job is an important factor in selection, so don’t apply someplace you where you wouldn’t be happy to work.
What happens if I get an interview at two services?
If you are a particularly outstanding candidate and several services would like to offer you employment, they will decide together on the best place for you to work and extend you a single offer. Applicants will not be asked to choose between services.
